4Great equipment but putting it together was a task!!
By FMcCullum
I priced this Proform elliptical on the Proform site before I purchased it. I have used this brand of elliptical before in the gym and really liked the fact that it is fully automatic and has a longer stride. Once I put it together everything was wonderful but the process was certainly not easy. Following the directions was easy enough but I ran into problems when trying to install the cross bar for the handles...no matter how much I greased that bar it would not slide easily into the opening. A hammer, mallet, rethreader, and a whle lot of cussing later, and I finally got the cros bar in. The rest of the set-up was smooth as pie and the elliptical works like a charm.

5Great machine but Axle/Crossbar will be difficult
By Jocelyn Sheesley
Fitting the axle through the crossbar was a painful process. No matter how much grease I used, I could not get the bar through. I was using a rubber mallet but didn't want to damage the machine from hitting it so hard and so frequently. It ended up getting stuck, so I called ProForm. I waited 1.5 hours to talk for less than one minute, so I'm writing this review to save you time!

The representative knew why I was calling the instant I told her which model I was trying to assemble. She said this was normal and the installation was known to be difficult (though the manual does not mention it). She advised me to pound away with the mallet until it was through and assured me that it would not hurt the machine, noting that people call every day with this question and nobody ever calls back saying it broke. Sure enough, an hour later the axle was finally centered.

Don't use a metal hammer to pound on the axle. That can damage the surface, making it difficult for other pieces to fit properly.
